Mindful Massage Creates A Meditative Experience
Updated: Sep 14, 2018
Life is full of chaos. We live in a world that is always on the move. We work hard, play hard, think hard, and live fast. Informationally driven, we are bombarded daily with copious amounts of data that our body and brain must process efficiently and effectively. This stimuli often has us spending too much time using the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for our stress response/ fight or flight. Our bodies and our brains do an amazing job, but living with stress leaves us needing some good ol' fashioned TLC.
Massage therapy is a nurturing experience that allows both body and mind to rest and recharge. When receiving massage, the body is able to drop into a state of relaxation known as the parasympathetic state. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for conserving energy, increasing intestinal and gland activity, slowing the heart rate, and relaxing muscles. Often referred to as "rest and digest" mode, bringing our energy into the parasympathetic state is extremely beneficial for calming the mind and also allows for the body to begin healing itself.
Connecting with other humans (& pets &/or plants :)) through touch is an integral part of feeling safe and accepted, yet it is becoming more and more obscure in our fast-forward moving culture. Maybe we don't have the time or the energy to touch and be touched, but creating time to receive massage may do wonders for the body, mind, and soul.
When we collaborate with massage therapists who are present, detailed, authentic, and passionate about helping people reconnect to the body; our energy, mind, and spirit thank us. Mindfulness is at the root of all beneficial therapy. We must first acknowledge and recognize what we are carrying before we are able to process and let it go.
So do yourself a favor. Release that tension, and strengthen that connection with the body.
Let's open those blockages and get that energy free flowin'!
